Linus Hablot – Just Call

It’s been a while since we have discovered an artist of this kind of level. His track “Just Call” gives me Tom Misch vibes when we first found his tracks online. Linus who’s based in Singapore has been busy in US to produce new music. (Bandwagon, 2016) His first EP “Coming Down” was released last year with our favorite track “Gone”. Just Call is a more upbeat track showing us how promising this act would be. He’s one of the New Kids on the Block to watch this year. Follow my playlist to see more of our picks.

Louis the Child – Love is Alive

Billboard.com describes “Love is Alive” as a soft and soothing with rolling bass and hefty though sparring drums song. I couldn’t agree more! This song just takes you back to those sunny road trips  with your friends. Elohim joined the whole process writing and collaborating as well. One of my friends introduced her music to me last week. It’s always awesome when acts collaborate with potential future acts. Most end up with awesome hits, like music babies.

Love is Alive based on their soundcloud would be featured as one of the Ultra Music songs. A follow-up to their It’s Strange ft K Flay which also made it to the Ultra 2016 album.

Maggie Rogers – On + Off

Ever since that viral video when Pharrell met her at the NYU studio because of their professor’s idea, she goes on to impress us still to this day. Releasing “Alaska” as an official single afterwards, it instantly hit the radios and playlists. Dog Years I’d say was a track I got right away. The mellow vibes and lyrics bring you close to her. With this new song however, she takes us to yet another different sound without sacrificing her songwriting showing us that she’s definitely deserving of that BBC Sound of 2017 nomination. When is she gonna release an album?

Léon – Think About You

Good news from the music gods out there! Léon just released a new track after months of drought. It’s been a a year or so since “Tired of Talking” was released making it in big in music blogs. She was instantly an artist to watch, music production and songwriting was just perfect. “Treasure” and “Nobody Cares” were the singles that came after letting us in deep into her breakup story. It was one of the best EP from an upcoming artist in the past year. She’s Swedish which is why her success is no surprise, evidently more and more artists, DJs and producers are hitting our radios. Best example would be Tove Lo and Max Martin.

“Think About You” doesn’t disappoint at all, the same haunting pain and awesome instrumentals. If this is just a taste of what her album would be like, then we are in for a ride.
Take a listen

Here’s a live bonus

Jack Garratt – Surprise Yourself

BBC’s Sound of 2016 winner is back with his new album “Phase”. Instant favorite track is “Surprise Yourself”. Kind of different from my last year’s top pick “Weathered” but the Garratt sound is all there still.

“I wrote ‘Surprise Yourself’ for a friend of mine who took the wrong train home once,” Garratt tells TIME about the track. “I wanted them to have something uplifting to come home to, something that encouraged and invited to them to be whatever change they wanted to see in themselves and not worry about the journey they’d just had. That was three years ago, and the song has stayed the same since. Read the full article below.

Gryffin – Heading Home ft. Josef Salvat

Josef Salvat’s “Open Season” was one of the best tracks of 2014 for me personally. On the other hand, Gryffin’s remix of Tove Lo’s “Talking Body” caught my attention last year. Gryffin had been remixing songs and been posting it on his soundcloud. What a great way to start his career than with an upcoming artist too. Great teamwork as I think this song brings out the best of both artist.

LÉON – Treasure

LÉON is back with an EP entitled “Treasure”. It includes her first and best track “Tired of Talking” plus “Nobody Cares” and two new songs. “Treasure” is the third track we are hearing from this upcoming swedish artist. Whatever heartbreak she went through or whoever wrote these songs are for sure turning these emotions into these awesome upbeat “mellow technow” songs. She should be famous by now… That’s all I can say.
